The Information Technology Age is Upon Us

There are four main aspects to information technology consulting.  The first tier of IT consulting consists of firms which offer professional services while maintaining large professional workforces and can charge high-end billing rates. The second level of IT consulting are firms which provide staffing services that can place computer technologists in their office on a temporary basis, usually when there is a temporary employee absence, or a short-term skilled labor shortage, or if there is a technical project which needs additional workers only for the length of the projects.

The third tier consulting firms are independent IT consultants. These technicians act as employees of a staffing firm, or as independent contractors. In the first case the employee would be considered a “W-2” employee, and in the second case of the independent contractor, as a “1099” employee, referring the U.S. tax code which each type of employee would be relevant to.

The last type of IT consultants is information security consultants. This type of consulting addresses the ever growing need for businesses and other organizations to understand and manage security at a more sophisticated level.  Information security is considered an inseparable part of today’s competitive business strategies and cannot be taken for granted nor underestimated as an important contributor to the functionality and success of any business, large or small, in today’s highly competitive marketplace.
